In a harsh desert world where water is worth any price, twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is skilled at keeping secrets. She hides her unique powers and her history of stealing from the Undying Queen’s reserves. However, when she encounters Death himself, she accidentally opens a gateway to a land of ice and snow. There, she finds the Fae—creatures of myth and nightmare—are real and embroiled in a dangerous conflict. Bound to a mysterious Fae warrior named Kingfisher, Saeris must navigate this new world and its hidden agendas. With Kingfisher as her reluctant ally, she faces perilous deals and uncertain paths as she tries to find her way back home.
Quicksilver was compelling and I really enjoyed it, but it wasn’t without its flaws. The story was engaging and kept me entertained throughout. However, some inconsistencies and plot holes disrupted the flow. While some elements worked well, others, like the banter and tension between Saeris and Kingfisher, felt underdeveloped and abrupt, lacking the buildup needed to make their interactions/relationship impactful.
- Saeris – Orphaned and responsible for her younger brother, Saeris has had to fend for herself. I actually really liked her. She’s a survivor and would do anything for those she loves.
- Kingfisher – I don’t know that I feel any connection to him. More specifically… his name as of now. I unapologetically hate it.
This book is long and I do feel the author could have done more with the space. Specifically, when it comes to their development. It just lacked emotional depth for how long this was. The tension could’ve been built more over time. I do think it would’ve benefited from being a slower burn.
I found the experience enjoyable and don’t regret reading it. I’m looking forward to seeing how the series unfolds and hope for a deeper exploration in the next one.
If you like fantasy romance with a badass FMC and a brooding MMC, you’ll love Saeris and Kingfisher.
