In The Serpent and the Wings of Night, Oraya, the adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, enters a perilous tournament called the Kejari to prove her worth and escape her role as prey. Competing against fierce warriors from all vampire houses, she forms an uneasy alliance with Raihn, a ruthless vampire and rival who threatens her father’s throne. As Oraya and Raihn grow closer, their forbidden attraction complicates their survival and their roles in an escalating conflict. This dark fantasy novel explores themes of love, power, and survival in a world where trust is deadly and romance is perilous.
Let’s start with Book 1. Loved. I had so much fun reading this and I loved Oraya. The plot was good and had solid worldbuilding for a first book. Not too complicated but descriptive enough. The author has moments where the sentences are just trying to be too profound and end up sounding not so profound.
What I liked: I liked the pacing and Raihn was exactly what I wanted in the mmc.
What I didn’t like: The ENTIRE Second Book. It felt rushed and just lacked what the first book had.
I started this prior to Broadbent’s other series but after starting Daughter of No Worlds, this series felt so lackluster. It feels as if no time was dedicated to this. Coming from that book which was so overly detailed and kinda boring to this, which would’ve been great except for how rushed and underdeveloped the ending was…. quite frankly, it’s disappointing.
Overall, I still enjoyed the story and would absolutely recommend. To clarify, the first book is absolutely worth the 4 stars.
