The person who stands by is just as guilty as the one who pulls the trigger.
When I think of Us Dark Few, the words “short and to the point” come to mind, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Each scene felt meticulously crafted, and the writing was poetic and it resonated perfectly with the story. It’s incredibly fast-paced, which, while exhilarating, might have done a disservice to the book’s depth.
Khalani was a standout character. Her emotional journey—navigating the turmoil around her and confronting her past and coming to grips with her current situation—was depicted with grace and authenticity.
Takeshi, our male lead, was compelling, but I craved more from him. Yet, I still found myself rooting for him throughout.
Where the book could improve is in its world-building and pacing. A dystopian setting needs more development to fully immerse the reader, and I struggled to visualize the world. The backstory felt underdeveloped, and the stakes didn’t seem high enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Given the premise, this book might have benefitted from a New Adult or Adult focus to better suit its themes.
With all that said, I genuinely loved Us Dark Few and am excited to see where the story goes next. That twist at the end? Brilliant. I can’t wait for more.
